Our excellent webspace provider enabled con-jobs via Plesk, making the process much easier. The daily dump of all three databases happens directly on the server without the need for an external trigger. MySQLDumper still dows a great job here.

The database dump and any other new files added to the wiki are then pulled via FTP from an external server hosted at a different provider. The backup starts every night at 3 o’clock and takes less than one hour.

The compressed dumps of the wiki and forum databse occupy 26 MB and 1.8 MB respectively. The whole site backup weights in at 6.5 GB.

Together with the database dump done via the excellent MySQLDumper application a complete second off-site backup of the CPC-Wiki exists now. Only thing left is to automate the process completely.

Just wanted to let you know that tomorrow I’m moving. Everything’s packed up, including my CPCs and paraphernalia, and almost ready to go. I’m just writing this because I don’t know when I’ll resurface from under the mountains of kitchenwear, clothes and retro PCBs. At least I got my arcade/MAME cabinet in working order just in the nick of time, so I’ll still be getting my retro fix.

So, until I get back to occupy myself again with the Wiki an all – have a great time, and a lovely weekend :)
